Mental Health Waiver Youth Peer Advocate Training
YOUTH POWER! and Cornell University created a training for Youth Peer Advocates in the Office of Mental Health Home and Community Based Waiver programs. Throughout 2018, YP! offered a limited number of training opportunities for OMH Waiver Youth Peer Advocates to begin serving in their roles prior to the release of the full YPA Credential and accompanying training (anticipated January 2019).
Following the release of the YPA Credential and accompanying training, the Waiver Youth Peer Advocate Training will no longer be offered and Waiver YPAs will be required to utilize the full credentialing process. YPAs who completed the Waiver YPA training in 2018 will be provided with instructions on next steps for pursuing the YPA Credential.
Those who are interested in becoming a Youth Peer Advocate, but are not actively serving or preparing to serve under the OMH Waiver, can contact their local Regional Youth Partner for professional development, networking, and training opportunities while awaiting the release of the training and credential.
